Me...

I was supposed to be a doctor…

Being born to Jamaican parents on an island, it seemed my future was already determined. Fortunately, this was not the case. I initially wanted to become a doctor, but after venturing into the world, I realized I was an introvert and not a fan of social interactions or taking care of people. Ironically, I chose one of the most extroverted professions and started photographing people.

My Origin Story

I was born in 1996 in Clarendon, Jamaica, an island located in the Caribbean Sea—have you heard of it? My mother is an entrepreneur, and my father is a reggae artist. I lived in Jamaica until I was 20 before migrating to the U.S. with my family.

Initially, I was never interested in photography. I started by learning graphic design and music production. I remember feeling exhilarated after earning my first paycheck from designing a flyer for a client’s event—who doesn’t love getting paid for their art? The high school I attended didn’t have a media department that focused on graphics and social media content since we were just transitioning into that era. My friend and I started our first company to help the school with branding.

Another friend had just bought a camera and was acting like he was the best at what he did. He basically bet me that I couldn’t outdo him on a particular project, so I did. I started photography because of my competitive nature. I love to be challenged, and having a group of creatives around me helped me grow exponentially. Before I knew it, I was a photographer.

Where did the name archix come from?

My actual name is Archie. “Archix” was a typo made by a friend from a character called “Artrix” in a comic book I made back in high school. The name stuck, and people started using it as my alias ever since. Jamaicans are notorious for intentionally messing up your name or giving you a nickname within seconds of meeting you.

Achievements.

I have had the pleasure of creating imagery for startups, established businesses, personal brands, and even celebrities. My work has appeared on many sites, blogs, and magazines. But more importantly, are you ready to work together?
